Artist Statement:
I create art and design to evolve, heal and rise above. Through the process of creating art I find solace. Art grounds me and brings me to a meditative place where my vibration is elevated. It is sensory experience that takes you on a playful journey with colors, materials, shapes and ideas as they evolve with much curiosity on the canvas. I weave together textured spaces reminiscent of fabric, intertwined with botanical elements and focal objects.
I was born in the United States and raised in Colombia where I lived most of my life before I decided to move back to the United States in 2005. I grew up in a diverse and multi-cultural environment with constant exposure to different artistic expressions. Creativity was in the air at all times and the love for art came natural.
Very early in my childhood I spent time drawing and painting. My parents and sisters always supported and encouraged it. Painting became my place to heal and feel alive, mostly through my teenage years, after my dad died. It would bring company and joy!
After graduating High School, I went to study in Bellas Artes (Art School in my city Cali). After a basic year of both art and design, I chose Graphic Design as my career.
Although I always incorporated illustration in my work and tried to paint often, Graphic Design and family took priority. After I moved to the United States and had been working independently for a few years, I became aware of the importance to prioritize art and illustration. My work as a designer had been evolving into a more unique process and results. People would come to work with me for my artistry, hence my graphic designer moniker, The Brand Artisan. Graphic design is done to help represent others and although I used my artistry to fulfill their own passions and bring their visions to life, I was not fulfilling mine. These past years I have been adding more time and projects that involve art: paintings, digital art and illustrations. I have also adapted many of these to products, children’s books, photography and other ideas that are in development.
Prioritizing my passion has become, now, my goal and path. Art is my main self-healing tool, my place to meditate and play. Whether you are the creator or the person that enjoys it, art, will change someone’s life to the core if they permit it. Art carries a healing vibration. It enhances your experience in life and in people’s spaces. Art can tell a different story about you and your surroundings.
"Art carries a healing vibration. It enhances your experience in life and in spaces. Art can tell a different story about you and your surroundings."
